Overview of the Position: | Chief U.S. Magistrate Judge Carolyn K. Delaney is seeking well qualified applicants for a half-time (20 hours per week), Pro Se Law Clerk position. The incumbent will assist Judge Delaney and other magistrate judges by conducting extensive research and writing on civil rights cases and writs of habeas corpus filed by prisoners. This will include substantively reviewing pleadings, preparing bench memos, and drafting orders on such matters. A weekly work schedule for the weekly 20 hours is negotiable. In addition, the selected candidate may accept (or hold) another half-time position with the court to obtain full-time status. Judge Delaney welcomes applicants who can work with her in Sacramento chambers. She will also consider an applicant’s preference for full-time telework on a case-by-case basis, especially for applicants who possess significant relevant work experience.
