Overview of the Position: | The U.S. Probation & Pretrial Services office for the District of Maine includes locations in both Portland and Bangor. This position is a part-time position. The Drug Analysis Technician provides specialized technical and administrative support to probation officers and is responsible for the on-site collection of urine specimens from defendants/individuals convicted of federal offenses, in the Bangor office. Currently, we are looking for male candidates for the position, as one of the job responsibilities entails closely monitoring the collection of urine specimens from male offenders. |

Position Description
The Drug Analysis Technician performs duties and responsibilities which include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Conduct and observe urine specimen process with individuals of the same gender. Perform tests for detection of controlled substances. Maintain appropriate records. Perform these duties while observing necessary safety precautions and by using appropriate protective equipment such as gloves, safety glasses, lab coats/smocks, etc.
- Certify the validity of urine test results by signing the Collection and Testing Certification on the Chain of Custody form
- Enter testing data in the appropriate database on a daily basis
- Collect and distribute test results to appropriate staff members. Provide prescription reporting.
- Record information for reports and investigations related to drug testing, including blind sample studies, and quality control of non-instrumented handheld devices
- Collect data and complete forms in support of the drug testing program, including reporting lab results, sending out samples, and retrieving results from the website
- Report all hazardous or safety-related incidents encountered in the course of duty to the appropriate authority for entry into the Safety and Information Reporting Systems (SIRS)
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualification
High school diploma/GED is required. Applicants may be enrolled (or graduated from) an associate, bachelor, or graduate degree program, preferably in a Criminal Justice major/minor. Applicants must possess clerical, office, or other experience that indicates the possession of or the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position.
The successful candidate will be organized, can follow detailed instructions, and have the ability to work under deadlines. He will also have the ability to interact and communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds. The successful candidate will also have skill in using automated systems and the ability to enter data accurately and will have experience in word processing, email and knowledge in using standard office equipment and telephones.
